Aweful. Waited an hour and thirty minutes to get through passport control DESPITE being a UK resident for three years. Anyone with non-EU passport herded like cattle, like second rate human beings. Really should be allowances for families with small children. Disgusting

It had been 20 years since I was last in Heathrow and back then it was kind of a dump. It has been nicely renovated. A huge plus is the food and drink while waiting for a flight will not cost you a king's ransom as compared to other airports. If you are taking the Heathrow Express, be prepared for a walk that feels like half way to Paddington Station. While it is the best way out, it is ridiculously far out from the terminal.
Fastest way to get to London proper currently (Crossrail may change this). It takes about 15 minutes. The underground takes about 45 minutes from approximately the same location (Paddington).It's a bit pricey but there are a number of things you can do to lower the cost. BUY YOUR TICKETS ONLINE OR THROUGH THE APP IN ADVANCE is the easiest and quickest way to get cheaper tickets. Travel off-peak which is always been easy for me to do. If traveling with someone else they have "Duo" fares which are cheaper.Bottom line: If I'm in a hurry I take the Express. If not, the Underground.
